Mediation - Theory, Practice and Skills
Recommended for LLB students at Indian law schools. This interactive online course covers the full 45hr curriculum as mandated by the Bar Council of India in relation to mediation theory, practice and skills.

This course is spread across two modules containing 43 lessons in total. The course culminates in a final assessment that will test your knowledge and understanding.
Each lesson takes around 1 hour to complete with with additional reading and resources with overall course completion estimated at around 45 hours. The course map and timetable will help you schedule your studies and prepare for the assessment.
This course has been designed from the ground up to cover all aspects of the curriculum mandated by the Bar Council of India with respect to Mediation and Conciliation whereby all universities and Centres of Legal Education have been directed to incorporate these core subjects into the LLB degree course.
This module addresses foundational concepts in conflict theory and analysis, together with options and processes for the resolution of disputes. Students will be able to:
Identify causes and drivers of conflict in different contexts
Recognise what parties need in order for disputes to be resolved
Explain why alternative processes are particularly suited to resolving conflict
Describe latest development in dispute resolution and their impacts on practice
This module considers the impact of communication on dispute resolution, and identifies appropriate communication strategies in the dispute resolution context. Students will be able to:
Explain how communication can escalate or help resolve disputes
Model communication skills in dispute resolution processes
Respond to challenges in cross-cultural communication
Suggest strategies for successful online communication
This module explores the foundational principles of mediation, and how these translate into different process models. Students will be able to:
Distinguish between different styles and models of mediation
Describe the role and impact of the mediator in the process
Recommend a process model for different types of dispute
Draft the required documentation for mediation
This module focuses on core mediation skills and practice, and how these have evolved recently. Students will be able to:
Prepare effectively for mediation
Demonstrate key mediation skills and strategies
Work effectively with parties and advisers in mediation
Respond to new developments in the practice of mediation

On average, it takes students 1 hour to complete a lesson in the course, plus some additional hours for reading and study of the resources. So in total you should complete this course over a period of 45 hrs. By studying little and often (a lesson per day) you'll be able to work your way methodically through the course to completion.
How long do I get access to the course? After enrolment you will have access to the course for 90 days.

Remember to send your Mediator Academy certificate issued to you on successful completion of the course as evidence.
Yes, you will need a reasonably stable wifi or mobile internet connection to access the course. You can download the reading materials however to read them offline. We also recommend studying on a laptop or desktop for the best experience.
You will not be able to skip forward in the course as it is essential that you study all the materials in order to pass the course assessment. You can of course go back to revisit materials you have covered already to review them.
Reading materials included with the course have been chosen carefully and represent the most up to date thinking and knowledge in the area. We recommend you read at least the resources referenced in the lessons, most are relatively short and offer a variety of perspectives on the issues you are studying. All resources can be downloaded and saved for you to review over time.
In order to pass the course you must complete the final assessment at the end of the course. You must score a minimum of 55% or more in the assessment to pass for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators accreditation.
